The Librarian – A Sonnet

shutterstock_226807453She spends afternoons whiling

Away hours among the stacks,

As dust motes dance through shafts

Of sunshine. She is smiling

At him from behind the cards she is filing,

But she know the ugly facts:

Obsession lays its trap,

But – however beguiling –

Is there hope for a girl in Coke-bottle glasses?

She thinks not.

Still, she passes

Hours in girlish fantasies –

A universe of unspoken thought

Behind magnified lashes.

  1. Yet another great poem! It was written in such a descriptive way that I could imagine her there, spying from the stacks at the object of her desire!
Nicely done! Maybe a Part 2?? I hope she gets the guy in the end!
